3 month review

So today marks 3 months since I took my first Mounjaro jab. In this blog I will look at progress, what worked well, what didnt and everything in between.
I think its best to start with the reason I began taking mounjaro and thats weightloss.
Monday is my weigh day each week and every single week ive seen a loss on the scales. A consistency I've not seen since I first got fit in my early 20s.
My total weight loss is now 16.4kg in 3 months.
Im fairly happy with this but it only tells half the story.
As ive mentioned in previous posts, I was rock bottom both mentally and physically. I hadn't realised how dark of a place I was in with my mental health and I was the heaviest I'd ever been by a long way. Not a PB im particularly proud of setting or 1 I want to repeat.
Initially I was apprehensive to start mounjaro but I was determined to do it properly. I made a deal with myself that I'd only start on the fat jabs as long as I was committed to putting in some work myself.
I had to make a genuine and sustained effort to alter my daily habits and routine for the long term.
Roll forward 3 months and I'm happy to say I'm still upholding my end of the deal. Admittedly, this has been made a hell of a lot easier with the support of the jabs.
I've just finished a course of 7.5mg over the last month, which has cemented my feeling that I won't be increasing my jabs anymore.
Moving from 2.5mg to 5mg to 7.5mg felt like there was absolutely no difference between the doses. I still have some "food noise" and thats always been there. But the whole point of being on the jabs is to dampen this not completely eradicate it.
I want to be making conscious decisions, not simply forgetting to eat!
I'm very happy being hungry at meal time, I'm very happy making better food choices, I'm very happy thinking about my portion sizes and I'm very happy that I'm not eating like a hippo all day every day.
Probably the wrong analogy to use considering hippos are primarily vegetarians grazing on grass most of the day, but you get the jist!
In terms of side effects over the last 3 months, I haven't had any at all, except 1 single day when I woke up feeling nauseous. However, the day before I'd barely eaten anything. This wasnt a deliberate tactic, just a busy day out and about meant I'd consumed under 1000 calories for the day. I've been back to anywhere between 1500 and 2000 calories per day since and there has been no more morning sickness.
Thats been the only negative experience so far.
Positives.
In addition to being 16+ kg lighter I've noticed a huge knock on effect with my mental health. I feel far more positive day to day now. I feel good about getting out and about now and I actually enjoy leaving the house for a walk and some fresh air. I finally feel like I'm getting a spring in my step again!
I'm also training in the gym 4 days per week too, but my current routine means I'm only resistance training on the weights machines. Next week, I plan to up the amount of cardio I'm doing as I'm only getting my daily 10k+ steps in at the min rather than anything rigorous. And I'm keen to change this.
Even so, I can feel I've put on a lot of muscle since I started and I'm really starting to notice it in my arms, shoulders and back.
The third change I've noticed is a genuine determination to be generally healthier. So much so I've focused on adding daily supplements to my diet.
I spoke previously about the collagen I'm taking each morning in my coffee, and after seeing a noticeable difference, I'm now taking a multi-vitamin, Omega 3 and NMN each day.
Yes, ive flipped the script and swapped my m&m for nmn.
Say that 5 times quickly!!
Hopefully the next 3 months continue in the same way as we roll into summer. I'm still aiming to be "good for Goodwood" but I'm also determined to look and feel good in a white T-shirt this year, so I can stop dressing like an oversized goth!
